The Great and Perfect Solution to Mankind's Greatest Problem

“Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” (Romans 5:9-11)

Look around your surroundings. Watch and read the news. Isn't it that the most common thing in each of us is that everyone has their own problems. There are problems left and right-- personal problems, health problems, financial problems, relationship problems, family problems, work problems, economic problems, societal problems, etc. If I would ask you, which among these is the greatest problem we have?

Let me tell you this. It’s not one of them. The greatest problem we have is that which extends throughout eternity: God's wrath over our sins. Each has their own different problem. My problems may be different from yours. Your problems may be different from other people but the only common problem that transcends our differences is facing God's wrath over our sins. This is because each one of us is a sinner before a holy and just God.

This is humanity's greatest problem: God is a holy God who cannot stand even an ounce of sin so He has sentenced every human being to His eternal wrath and condemnation because everyone sinned against Him. Ephesians 2:3 says that all mankind are by nature children of wrath. So how can this greatest problem be solved? The answer is through Jesus Christ alone.

Really? Only Jesus Christ? Why? Because you and I cannot appease the wrath of God because what God, the Father, demands is perfection, and we are not perfect in any way. All that we do, even the best that we can do is already tainted with sin. So Jesus Christ willingly died and bore our sins on the cross. He instead received the wrath of God that we so rightly deserve. His atoning sacrifice of paying a price for our sins by His own blood made it possible for us, His people, to be reconciled to God.

As God's children who, by God's grace and mercy, allowed us to understand deeply that we are sinners before a holy God; and by the Holy Spirit's mighty work caused us to genuinely repent of our sins and believed and trusted Christ's atoning sacrifice, what we received is Christ's righteousness. In His atoning sacrifice, He purchased our redemption. The price of our sinfulness has been paid, not by us, but by Christ and now we are reconciled to God for the rest of eternity. What a great and perfect solution we have in Christ!

Believer, may you continuously be reminded of this Great Atoning Sacrifice that Christ made for us to be reconciled to God. May this wonderful truth cause us to worship God with grateful hearts more and more as we live our lives daily.
