Secured to a Glorious Future

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” (1 Peter 1:3-5)

Holy Week went by so fast. Before we knew it, it was already Easter Sunday, as they call it. When you think of Easter Sunday, what do you picture?

Some would probably say: "Easter eggs!". Sadly, Easter Sunday nowadays has been reduced to hunting Easter eggs. But Easter Sunday is much greater than that.

Easter Sunday is all about the resurrection of Christ. And this isn’t something we, Christians, should miss. It isn't right that we think of salvation and atonement without linking it to resurrection. The resurrection of Christ secured our salvation and justification. In Christ's death, an atonement was made. In resurrection, the perfect blamelessness and sinlessness of Jesus was vindicated, and our justification was made sure. It means that God the Father has accepted the atonement that Christ made on our behalf. This secured our salvation, justification, and even our own resurrection. John 14:19 tells us, "Because I live, you also will live."

Christ indeed has risen! Along with it are our living hope and secured glorious future-- as Peter put it in 1 Peter 1:4 "to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading." And what great love and amazing grace we have in God is that by His power, while waiting for that glorious future, we are being kept, being guarded through faith. All these are secured because Christ has risen from the dead.

This is what should cause us for a great celebration and gratitude and worship: The holy and just God who is angry over our sins even provided our salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ, who made atonement for our sins and received the wrath from God on our behalf and imputed His righteousness to us, and overcame sin and death by His resurrection that then leads to our living hope and secured our glorious future.
